So what is "the Seraph"?
We like to use the Seraph as our symbol at the Manlius Historical Society. A seraph is a kind of angel. In 1818, a weathervane in the shape of a seraph blowing a horn was placed on top of the Trinity Presbyterian church spire, at the corner of Seneca and Washington Streets in Manlius. This seraph kept watch over Manlius until 1939, when the church building was demolished. The weathervane was saved by E. D. Smith, Manlius Village Clerk, who had it reinstalled on the cupola of the Manlius Municipal building, which was built on the site of the former church, in 1941. Today this Seraph weathervane is in the collection at the Manlius Historical Society, where we are hoping to restore it to its original brilliance so that everyone can enjoy it again!
